I deleted the message and blocked the number. Come today, a new number contacted me. It began with like 12 gorey images of people being brutally beaten up and killed in one way or another. The accompanying message was “Hey sr.” two times and this (paraphrased and shortened): “We are communicating directly from the escort agency. Jalisco cartel scam. So I recently got a message about someone claiming to be apart of the Jalisco cartel. I did some research and saw that similar scams were happening recently. Although this is true I am still concerned about the entire situation. This person claims to be apart of the cartel and said I owe a $2,000 fine for wasting escorts time.

The reason to use spoofs is to send phone calls spoofing a bank or other known numbers. When you text message, you send a message to who it’s registered to. So your responses would go to the wrong number and they wouldn’t see it if they were spoofing. It’d be much more difficult to not get feedback from you.
