Just had to say my SS NMB just got a new friend. Picked up a new Marlin 336 stainless on sale at Dicks for $489. Always wanted a marlin 30-30, especially since they started making them in stainless. Got it on sale and also a $35 mail in rebate. Saw a couple of these rifles in a local pawn...Although the Model 336 Dark Series is only available in .30-30, Marlin offers a Model 1895 Dark Series chambered in .45-70. In unmodified form, we thoroughly enjoyed the Model 336. At under eight pounds, this rifle is easy to carry and maneuver. The lever and hammer cycled smoothly, and the trigger was crisp with minimal slack.The Model 336 will return, according to Killoy, in the future. He also mentioned that lever-actions in .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum were in the works, too. As a company, Ruger is sturdy as an old oak tree with deep roots. Grafting a new Marlin branch to that rootstock should produce some firearms fruit.
